Fairway To Cars

The 28th annual Concurso Italiano cruised into town on August 16th, 2013. The fairways of the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch became the display space for the finest automobiles in production, concept cars from Fiat and vintage show cars and motorcycles. Over 500 vehicles were available for inspection by those in attendance.

A 1969 Lamborghini Miura S owned by Mark Jensen of Brisbane, Australia took home the Best of Show award. Its electric green coloration and limited production right-hand drive made it a rarity among the field of contenders.

Two fifty year anniversaries were celebrated:
Automobili Lamborghini was celebrated by the 130 Lamborghini owners who travelled to meet up at this event. This is thought to be the largest gathering yet of Lamborghinis in North America. One of 100 2014 Lamborghini Aventador, 50th anniversary roadsters was shown for reference only. All examples of this production run have already been purchased.

Fifteen Apollo 500GT (International Motor Cars, Oakland, CA) made the journey to commemorate the limited production run of those vehicles. Only 90 were ever produced. The Apollo represented the marriage of Detroit horsepower with an Italian-styled body.

The all-new 2014 Maserati Quattroporte was presented. And in a first this year – non-Italian cars were permitted in the ranks.

Clear skies and lush green grass complemented the bold primary colors of the many sports cars on display. Fiat was on hand to show off two variations on their Model 500 theme: The Cattiva Sport and the Cattiva Turbo. You’ll have to wait until fall to get your hands on one. In addition, a GQ Edition Cabriolet will reach showrooms after the first of the year.

And keeping up with tradition a fashion show took place once. Models walked the greens wearing designs from local merchants.

Concourso Italiano is the kick-off event for a whole weekend of car shows and road rallies in the Monterey area. Look for our coverage of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance for a continuation of the weekend’s activities.
