All That Glitters

(Santa Clara, California, February 7, 2016) – The Festival of Football at 50 is showing its age. The spectacle these days is less about the actual contest as it is about the promotional opportunities leading up to and interruptions occurring during the event. Why are we surprised? Once the commercial beast sets its claws into something, the end is not far off. For a visual of our feelings, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyBBiUPzd4I

As a further annoyance, this year’s run-up was geographically challenged in that the “celebration” was supposedly held in the “host” city of San Francisco…while the actual game was scheduled to be played tens of miles away in a South Bay town. What’s this? An opportunity for two locations to jack up their charges for accommodations? #greedandcomplicity

Speaking to the game itself, we looked at the point spread before the kick-off and then the result…and think that some group made an absolute killing. It was as if the result had been predetermined by others. That is all we are saying.

As for the highlights, congratulations to Peyton Manning for his career-capping win. The Cold Play performance was fresh and colourful. Bruno Mars is known for giving good energy and did not disappoint – #thenewmichaeljacksonsaywhat?. Madam B strutted her familiar dance move repertoire to the song du jour and all applauded on cue. The pitch perfect National Anthem was delivered by Lady Gaga accompanied by jets flying overhead with cut shots of some of our servicepersons stationed overseas.

In closing, a shout out to our publication’s friend, Vernon Davis, who found and rubbed the correct golden lamp which got him traded from the San Francisco 49ers to the Denver Broncos in mid-season and catapulted him to a Super Bowl ring. Good on ya.
