Marc Márquez: Making MotoGP History
Marc Márquez is the MotoGP World Champion for the second time after he sealed back-to-back world championships at the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday.
The 21-year-old Repsol Honda rider became the first man to win consecutive MotoGP crowns since Valentino Rossi in 2009.
The Spanish rider has dominated MotoGP in 2014, winning the first 10 races of the season on his way to becoming the youngest double MotoGP champion in history.
The records have tumbled since Márquez burst onto the Grand Prix World Championship scene in 2008.
After securing titles in the 125cc and Moto2 categories, Márquez won in only his second MotoGP race after stepping up to the highest category in 2013, becoming the youngest premier class race winner in the process.
It was a year of re-writing the history of the sport for the Spaniard, who became the first rookie to win the title since Kenny Roberts in 1978.
Going into 2014 as the favourite, he’s taken things on to another level with his dynamic riding style and huge smile.
Starting with the season-opening race at Qatar, Márquez won the opening 10 rounds of the campaign – a winning streak that hadn’t been seen since 1997.
