Frys.com Open at Silverado Country Club
(Napa, CA. Oct. 15th-18th) – Two firsts are notable for this year’s winner, Argentinian Emiliano Grillo: his first outing with a PGA Tour card and his first win of a PGA Tour event. He posted a 15 under par 273 after four rounds then took the playoff win from Kevin Na on the second hole to claim the $1,080,000.00 purse.
This is the last year that Fry’s (http://www.frys.com) will be sponsoring the event but the Silverado Country Club (http://www.silveradomembers.com) is locked-in as the venue at least until 2020. Safeway Stores (http://www.safeway.com) has signed a five year deal to sponsor the retitled Safeway Open beginning in 2016.
Plenty of the Tour’s talent attended. This year’s top prize was within reach of up to numerous competitors at the start of the fourth round. Brendan Steele, who had owned the leader board for three straight days, dropped seven strokes against Grillo/Na and finished tied for 17th. Tyrone Van Aswegen, Justin Thomas and Jason Bohn all tied for third place with four round scores of 274.
At 23, Grillo will have years to impress us with his skills…but the first time is always the sweetest.
