Levi’s Inaugural Ceremony

On Thursday July 17th the San Francisco 49ers and partners opened LEVI Stadium with an official ribbon cutting ceremony. This $1.3 Billion dollar project is the centerpiece for a huge sports and entertainment destination in Santa Clara. Already, $6.7 Billion dollars of adjacent development has been built/approved with another $6.5 Billion dollars expected in the near future.

Co-hosts Ted Robinson (the 49ers radio play-by-play man) & Tim Ryan (the new 49ers radio color analyst) emceed the festivities. Jed York, President of the 49ers, spoke at length about the dream of a new stadium and how a multitude of individuals deserve credit for the result. Santa Clara Mayor Jamie Matthews took the podium and acknowledged former Mayor now councilmember Patricia Mahan, Vice-Mayor Jerry Marsalli, councilmember Pat Kolstad, councilmember Lisa Gilmore, council member Teresa O’Neill and council member Debi Davis among numerous others with regard to their work on behalf of the project. LEVI Strauss & Co. CEO, Charles V. Bergh, spoke about his company’s partnership with the 49ers and modeled a 49ers-themed jeans jacket (soon to be available). Finally, Roger Goodell, Commissioner of the NFL, congratulated everyone on their accomplishment.

The first event at LEVI Stadium is scheduled for August 2nd – a soccer game between the San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders FC. The first 49ers pre-season home game against the Denver Broncos is scheduled for August 17th and the first regular season game will be on September 14th against the Chicago Bears.
