NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Carneros 200 at Sonoma Raceway Saturday June 27, 2015
It was a two car race from the start. David Mayhew in the MMI Racing/Ron’s Rear Ends/Pour House Chevrolet led for the first few laps…then Dalton Sargeant in the GALT Chevrolet deftly slipped under him to claim the lead on lap 3. Unfazed, Mayhew simply kept Sargeant in his sights until an opportunity presented itself. It was a very long wait. Had Dave Smith’s Dodge not wrecked with four laps to go which triggered a yellow flag, Sargeant might have rolled to victory. But a well-timed acceleration at the fluttering of the recovery green vaulted Mayhew back into the lead which he then held to the checkered flag. Skill and quick thinking – the recipe for the win this day.
