Hank Lundy VS. Angelo Santana ShoBox February 21, 2014
The Wolstein Center at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio recently played host to two decisive bouts.
In the main event, Hank Lundy dealt once-beaten vs. what might be considered a career-ending blow by taking the unanimous decision (98-91, 98-91, 98-91). Santana had bet everything that his previous loss had been an anomaly and he was capable of defeating a fighter of Lundy’s class – but this was not the case. Lundy, who scored the lone knockdown of the fight in the 9th round dictated the fight’s tempo from beginning to end. He also demonstrated that experience is an advantage which cannot be ignored.
“It’s SHOWTIME,” Lundy said. “We’ll go anywhere, baby. We come to fight. Once again, I’ll take my bundle and travel wherever I need to go. It’s time for me to claim a world title.”
In the opener, Amir Imam handily dispatched challenger Jared Robinson with a powerful right that propelled Robinson through the ropes. Imam’s 12th consecutive knockout occurred at 1:59 in the fourth round.
Though Robinson appeared to be the aggressor in the early rounds, it was Imam’s power shots which took their toll and forced Robinson into a defensive mode. Imam backed Robinson against the ropes, so that when the final punch fell, Robinson could only collapse straight down or, as it turned out, exit through the ropes.
“He was off balance so I think it was a good stoppage,” Imam said. “If the ref didn’t stop it then I would have just had to stop him on my own. It probably surprised a lot of people, but not me.”
