Marc Márquez Returns To Victorious form

MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez beats Jorge Lorenzo in excellent showdown at the British Grand Prix. After the ‘disappointment’ of finishing fourth at Brno a fortnight earlier and having his incredible winning streak broken, Marc Márquez returned to victorious form with his 11th win of the 2014 season at the
British Grand Prix.

It came after a mesmerising battle in the later stages of the race that saw Márquez go head to head with Jorge Lorenzo, a close quarters duel that the reigning World Champion edged with a gutsy overtake with two laps to go that saw the pair avoid colliding by the narrowest of margins.
Lorenzo had led off from the start of the race and commanded until the 14th lap, when Márquez pounced having tracked the Yamaha man the whole way.

It was far from done then however, as just two laps later Lorenzo retaliated by muscling his way back through. The race-winning overtake shortly after saw Márquez squeeze up the inside of Lorenzo to power his way back into first position, and he managed to hold the lead until the chequered flag.
Behind the top two, Valentino Rossi won the scrap for the final podium place as he rebuffed the strong advances of Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso. All three had occupied third position at one stage or another, but the Italian beat Pedrosa to the last rostrum spot by less than 0.2 seconds across the line.
Completing the top seven were Pol Espargaró and Stefan Bradl, with the highest-placed home rider of the race Scott Redding in tenth.

The result extends Márquez’s championship lead to an even bigger 89 points ahead of Pedrosa. Rossi sits third, ten points down on the Spaniard, with Lorenzo fourth.

I didn’t expect Jorge to be like that, he was so strong from the beginning. His rhythm was so high and he was pushing so much from the very start. In the end it was a great battle, quite tight! It’s nice to come back again here and win.

Jorge Lorenzo

This race was much better than we expected after the weekend we had. I lost some time when Marc touched me, and I tried to catch him again but I was struggling physically because I pushed so much at the beginning.

Valentino Rossi

I’m happy with the podium because it’s the first time for me here at Silverstone. Usually it’s very difficult for me here. I had a very hard battle with Pedrosa and Dovi until the end. A podium’s very good, but now we have to take another step forward.
