Bloomingdale’s Reborn

Image & Style Magazine was on hand today for the opening of the all new Bloomingdale’s at Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, California. The ribbon-cutting took place after short introductory speeches by the mayor of Palo Alto, Nancy Shepard, and Bloomingdale’s vice president and director of stores, Charles Anderson. Rope lines of waiting shoppers were clapped into the store by throngs of smartly dressed staff and accompanied by a small drumcorp.

The new three-story design is modern with its see-through exterior cladding plus black and white accents. An open ceiling concept – familiar to those who have visited GAP and Old Navy stores – is present throughout. The nexus of store construction expense is now at the level of the customer and within those objects which directly affect the customer’s experience – a smart move. The interior space includes regular departments by floor but also focuses the shopper on brand names by grouping individual designer’s offerings together.

While browsing through the young girl’s section we met Ms. Dana Zeldin, the store manager. She asked our opinion on the children’s shoe selection and was very helpful in directing me to clothes which were perfect for my young daughter. A good captain knows her ship – thank you Dana for the pointer.

My credit card begged to stay longer, but I showed considerable will and struggled out the doors. A lovely experience – be sure to drop in for the grand opening specials!
