Colts VS SF 49ers

Colts VS SF 49ers Indianapolis  27 | San Francisco  7

The real question is: Where have they taken the real 49ers and how much is the ransom to get them back? Yes, this author offered glowing praise for the same team the week before. The panache, the execution, the display of talent all present then were distinctly absent from this Sunday’s atrocity. Only Kendal Hunter’s 10 yard scamper for the single 49er touchdown saved us from the goose egg.

Go up against a running team when you’ve lost your nose tackle Ian Williams to an ankle injury the week prior then All-pro linebacker Patrick Willis to a groin injury in mid game and you expect some penetration. Frankly, it is remarkable that the Colts didn’t run the score up further. But key people are/were absent (including some on offense, i.e. – Vernon Davis) and the coach must be able to go to his bench for replacements.

This is the lingering question for the coming weeks. Is there enough depth to the team so that they may again engage their opponents with the expected vigor or are we slowly floating into a “building year” when backups fill positions and the team’s collective knowledge sharply declines with every injury? When you come to depend on excellence week after week it is a shock when someone whispers in your ear “All glory is fleeting.”
