Editor’s Note September 2014

Images so sharp you feel that the spray off the bow will hit you square in the face. From the rise and fall of the waves we moved to the back and forth of the Bank of the West Tennis Classic in which Serena Williams again proved she is the Queen.

While we favor hydration after a match, we include in this issue a caution for those of you who use energy drinks to maintain focus. Our  cover featured, Vanessa Villela, attracts focus with the power of her beauty but holds our interest with her charm – a pleasure to interview.  Power of a different variety arrives in the form of a new band whose debut album just dropped August 25th (available on iTunes). Have a listen to Royal Blood.

“Look” is right next to “listen” as we consult with the stylish Brandon Flowers of the San Diego Chargers regarding men’s fashion. Is fashion on your mind when it comes to the beginning of the NFL regular season? Look for a special designer’s viewpoint inside.

How are our local NFL teams doing as they work out the pre-season kinks? Our reviews of weeks two and three for both the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders are included. And as we leave a very full Sports section, a look at a new type of basketball camp experience – the Matt Barnes Sports Camp.

Our reporters jumped through hoops to cover every event during this year’s Monterey Car Week. We have everything from the concept cars to the vintage models. Speaking of classics, Our staff notes that age has done nothing to slow down aspiring actor Tony Quintero as he is finally able to embrace his passion. His film, East Side Sushi, is due out later this year. He graces our second cover.  Finally from film to the small screen, we highlight this year’s EMMY winners.

The Chateau by the Sea is not ready for re-occupancy yet, but we are well-ensconced ala our hotel with daily maid service and spotless restrooms. However shall we go back to living amidst the regular people? This is concerning…almost as much as this year’s science project – you know, where the adults do most of the work and the children take all the credit. It is time for the girl child to step up – that’s all I have to say.

An eventful summer ends but you can hear the rumble of the winter holidays (like a long-dormant volcano) in the distance. I need to find spiritual high ground to avoid the social expectation lahar. Until we speak again, enjoy!
