Lydia Ko birdied the final hole to finish 12 under par

Just days after her 17th birthday, Lydia Ko birdied the final hole to finish 12 under par – beating Stacy Lewis by one stroke and claiming the $270,000.00 winner’s purse. This was Ko’s third LPGA Tour win (she won the 2012 and 2013 Canadian Open as an amateur), her sixth victory in a professional tournament and her second win since turning pro late last year.

Having overcome a one shot deficit to Lewis at the beginning of round play, Ko held a one shot advantage over both Lewis and South Korea’s Jenny Shin as she teed off on the par-five 18th. Despite some difficulty with the left-hand rough, Ko sprang back with a solid iron then sank a six-footer for a birdie and a three-under 69 round.

The LPGA returned to the Bay Area after a four-year absence for the Swinging Skirts Classic as a result of the efforts of the Taiwan-based non-profit Swinging Skirts organization. Big names like Paula Creamer, Karrie Webb, Jessica Korda and Michelle Wie were among those who participated.

About Swinging Skirts

The Swinging Skirts Golf Team is a private, Taiwanese non-profit organization made up of both men and women amateur golfers with a shared goal of growing the game of golf across the globe via sponsoring top women’s golf tournaments and top female players.
The Swinging Skirts members are avid golfers who wear colorful kilts when playing the game to pay homage to one of golf’s oldest traditions, which was born hundreds of years ago at The Home of Golf: St. Andrews in Scotland.
The ongoing vision for the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic is to be a true celebration of Golf, the Arts and Culture. It will be a world-class golf tournament featuring the top players from the LPGA, but will also showcase some of the top international talent from Taiwan. At Lake Merced, the Swinging Skirts displayed their love for Art with plenty of colorful sculptures and cultural designs placed throughout the course. In addition, one could also enjoy samplings of some of San Francisco’s finest local fare, including the area’s best food trucks, area businesses and vendor displays.
San Francisco is known for its famous bridge. The Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic hopes to build a bridge between East and West!
