The Royal Marsden Partners With Ralph Lauren To Develop A Breast Cancer Research
Facility

Wednesday, 14th May 2014 The Royal Marsden – one of the late Princess Diana’s favorite charities – will host a gathering of Royalty, Hollywood celebrities, Fashion world icons and philanthropists as they celebrate the work of the largest and most comprehensive cancer center in all of Europe. The dinner gala takes place one day after the announcement of a partnership between Ralph Lauren and The Royal Marsden to fund a state-of-the-art breast cancer research facility: The Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research.

Ralph Lauren has personal experience with cancer, having survived the removal of a benign brain tumor in the late 1980’s. His close friend Nina Hyde, Fashion Editor of the Washington Post, also shared her breast cancer diagnosis with him. Both experiences compelled him to make a personal and corporate commitment to finding a cure for this disease. As a first step, he co-founded the Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research at Georgetown University. “Breast Cancer is not just a women’s issue,” says Lauren. “It affects all of us – the husbands, fathers, brothers, children and friends of the women dealing with this dreaded disease.”

The Polo Ralph Lauren Foundation was created for the purpose of providing support for philanthropic programs including education and healthcare in medically under-served communities, the arts and community-based initiatives. His family and company have supported historic preservation activities and numerous cancer research initiatives including the Pink Pony breast cancer campaign and the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention in Harlem, New York.
