FM 98.1 Valentines Old School Throwback Jam

(February 12, 2016 – San Jose, California) 80’s-era Hip Hop artists kicked off the Valentine’s Day weekend with a concert at the SAP Arena sponsored by FM 98.1 – The Bay’s Throwback Old School station.

Invited artists – The Jets, Jody Watley, Color Me Badd, Young MC, Tone-Loc, Shock G, Sir Mix-A-Lot, and Rob Base – performed several of their hit songs, taking audience members back to a time when lyrics could still be understood and the beat was ever so easy to dance to.

#Say What? – Jody Watley (who was joined by Shelmar and performed their hit song, “A night to remember”) started her set off in a fun and energetic mood, but seemed peeved when she was asked to cut her performance short to accommodate the setup of Vanilla’s Ice’s closing performance.

Highlights -Sir Mix-A-Lot performed his hit song, “I like Big Butts” and I revived my career as a back-up dancer during Vanilla’s closing song “Ice, Ice Baby.“

While his career and album sales have seen their ups and downs, Vanilla Ice’s performance on this day was excellent. We wonder if there are some artists who cannot separate their music from their physical energy and presence – both must be in sync in order for the magic to occur.
