ALMA Awards 2013

For the first time since its inception in 1995, Latino entertainment’s big night, The ALMA Awards, was broadcast live on MSNBC on September 27, 2013. Eva Longoria and Mario Lopez (from EXTRA) hosted the event at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

This year’s recipients:

  • Director Robert Rodriguez was honored with the Anthony Quinn Award for Industry Excellence. Jessica Alba, “Machete’s” Tito Larriva, “Spy Kids’” Daryl Sabara and Alexa Vega were on hand for the presentation.
  • Carlos Santana and Rosario Dawson received The Outstanding Commitment to a Cause and Community Award.
  • Actors Aimee Garcia and David Zayas accepted the Special Achievement in Television award for “Dexter”.
  • James Olmos and Jessica Alba also received awards.
  • Wilmer Valmerrama was honored for his Outstanding Social Activism.
  • Tony Plana received the “Ricardo Montalban Award for Lifetime Achievement”

Presenters included: Jessica Alba (Sin City, Machete), Gina Rodriguez (Filly Brown), Rico Rodriguez (Modern Family), Ricardo Chavira, Justina Machado, Fabrizio Zacharee (from the cast of NBC’s new comedy Welcome to the Family),

Guido Haro, Joseph Haro, Roselyn Sanchez, Dania Ramirez, Judy Reyes, Ana Ortiz and Edy Ganem ( from the Latina-led cast of Lifetime’s Devious Maids ).

Sebastian De La Cruz performed the National Anthem. Aloe Blacc and Queztal also performed for the audience.
