Celeberities Skype Fitted

CELEBRITIES are taking to Skype to be fitted for red carpet events by a leading fashion designer half a world away.

Rather than spending time jet setting across the globe, Paul Vasileff uses the internet to measure garments from his Paolo Sebastian label for clients across the globe.

Vasileff’s South Australian-based label is a highly sought after couture line.

He said Skype made tailoring clothes a matter of convenience and allowed people to be measured in the privacy and comfort of their own homes.

“I was living in Milan during my studies and I would Skype home every day so I guess for me it was just the natural and obvious choice. It just made sense and it really works so well,” he said.

“The initial consultation will consist of getting to know the client, understanding their needs and what they want to achieve. I’ll present them with a sketch based on the ideas we have discussed and from there we will take their measurements step by step as I guide them through.

“It has allowed us to reach and connect with markets all over the world. It’s a wonderful way to meet with the client and although they can be on the other side of the world they are able to feel as though they are right in the fitting room with me.”

But it’s not just about convenience for the client. The use of Skype also allows Vasileff to live in his home town Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, far away from the hustle and bustle of major fashion centres such as Milan, Paris and New York.

“My family, friends and life are in Adelaide,” he said.

“I’m so grateful and proud to not only be based here but to have our atelier and manufacturing base here too.”

Vasileff has used Skype to measure a list of celebrities such as Australian pop star Delta Goodrem and MTV Portugal host Anna Sofia.

He has also designed dresses for Kim Kardashian West, Giuliana Rancic, Kris Jenner, Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor and 2016 Miss Golden Globe Corinne Foxx.

“We have dressed numerous celebrities using Skype as a way of conducting fittings. Quite often they have very busy schedules and through Skype it’s a great way to run through things when they have five minutes from the comfort of their own home or office,” Vasileff said.

“It (Skype) allows you to connect with such a broad audience. It doesn’t matter where in the world you are as long as you have Wi-Fi connection.

In October Vasileff will have his clothes feature at the Adelaide Fashion Festival in South Australia.

Adelaide Fashion Festival creative director Chris Kontos said the festival would be “jam-packed” with exciting new trends and would include some of Adelaide’s best designers.

“We have such diversity within our band of local designers, but there are many who have complementary aesthetics,” Kontos said.

“Having world-renowned stylists bring the looks to life, we will certainly present runway shows unlike anything ever seen in Adelaide.”
