Fame & Philanthropy 2014

The Vineyard in Beverly Hills played host to Fame & Philanthropy’s first ever post-Oscar party which raised funds for several organizations: the Africa Outreach Project, CITY (Community Inspiring Today’s Youth) and the Compound Foundation.  Celebrated director James Cameron (Terminator, Aliens, Titanic & Avatar) delivered the keynote speech about activism and having a worldview regarding charitable organizations.  Featured celebrities Charlize Theron and Halle Berry were on hand and Ne-Yo headlined the live entertainment which included Paris Hilton and the Stafford Brothers.

In contrast to other reports you may have come across, our publisher found the event to be well executed. The caterers provided a nice spread for the attendees and the entertainment was professional. A swell of guests attributed to a ticket confirmation system on the fritz was not seen. Don’t get us wrong, the place was packed with people there to have a good time. Very late in the event, a number of revelers reached their limit, passed their “freshness date” and as a result lost their sense of decorum. It is certainly not the fault of the organizers that some took this path but, if/where it occurred, it will need to be addressed by next year’s team.

The Africa Outreach Project ) is working to prevent HIV infection among Africa’s youth. AOP takes its lead from community-based organizations who understand the social and structural relationships within their communities. AOP strives to develop collaborative, long-term relationships with their grantees so both parties can evolve together to increase each community’s capacity to prevent HIV.  CITY / Community Inspiring Today’s Youth (http://www.tcpyouth.org) works to provide a structured business development program and ongoing technical support for teens and young adults throughout Los Angeles, and take them full circle from learning a marketable skill/service to completion of the programs, resulting in the establishment of their own, fully operational small business.

The Compound Foundation (http://www.compoundfoundation.org) is a national organization founded in 2007 by Shaffer “Ne-Yo” Smith and his business partner Reynell Hay to enhance the well-being of youth growing up in foster care and group homes. The Foundation’s goal is to support bright futures for young people by helping them to forge healthy relationships, pursue education and training, learn entrepreneurship basics and realize their dreams.

Fame & Philanthropy (F&P) is an event that was founded to support the efforts of charitable organizations. By harnessing the power of celebrity appeal, this event combines the allure of Hollywood’s Biggest Night and the opportunity to interact with industry leaders. Although many celebrities and influential individuals will be in attendance, the motivation for the event is one of service, contribution and benefaction.

F&P will use the proceeds of this event to provide critical support for programs that will benefit the lives of present and future generations. The theme for this F&P event, “Belief In The Common Good”, will focus on F&P’s conviction that shared responsibility among citizens, as well as dedication to common humanity, is necessary for our next generation to thrive. Issues such as chronic illness, social inequality, access to higher education, climate change, funding for medical research, and bullying continue to present challenges all around the world. F&P will bring together leaders from the areas of business, entertainment, politics, and philanthropy to bring consciousness to these topics.
