Image and Style Magazine teamed up with the San Jose Fairmont for its second annual Zumbathon to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Having organized the previous year’s event I knew what we needed and how to go about making it happen. We needed great, high-energy instructors, an appropriate all-weather venue, a generous sponsor and a media outlet to promote the event.
Certified Zumba instructors David Monarrez, Cel Angel, Shirin Eslami and Cheri Fung led a fun filled two one hour and a half sessions filled with energy and performance for all ages. A raffle was held between sessions for overnight stays at a couple five-star hotels, YMCA memberships and other donated items. Zola coconut water (www.zolaacai.com) was provided for all participants during the break. Alice Radio 97.3 FM morning personalities Uzette, Hooman and Brynn were onsite to cheer on the participants.
A very special thanks goes to Rathika Subra for her invaluable assistance and organizing skills. Each year the Fairmont Hotel holds fundraisers to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in their efforts to fight blood-related cancers. Gate receipts and generous donations from community members linked to this event totaled in excess of $9,000.00 towards their annual 25,000 goal. Image and Style Magazine and the management of the Fairmont thank everyone for their help this year and look forward to our third annual event next year.
