Sebastian Kienle Wins Ironman

The German triathlete Sebastian Kienle dominates the Ironmen World Championship with a time of 8:14:18 hours, beating Ben Hoffman (USA) by more than five minutes.

(KAILUA-KONA) Hawaii – The Hawaiian Ironman is known as the oldest and most popular triathlon on the planet and combines the three toughest endurance races: a 3.86km Waikiki Roughwater Swim, 180.2km of the Around-O’ahu Bike Race and the 42.2km Honolulu Marathon.

After an injury-plagued season, the 30-year-old finished the swim in 54:38, the bike ride in 4:20.46 and the run in 2:54.36. He was 38th after the swim but took the lead with the third-fastest bike split in championship history.

“I cannot believe it,” Kienle said as he struggled for words.

“I told everyone before the race that my goal was to win,” he added at the press conference after his win. “I think if you can’t say that you want to win this race then you won’t be able to do it, because then you don’t have the confidence. I think I talked myself into it this year.”
