In writer-director Jason Wise’s second installment of the SOMM (short for Sommelier) trilogy (?) – SOMM: Into the Bottle – he takes viewers on a detailed excursion through the art and craft of winemaking and…it is hoped…answers some of the lingering questions left from his previous film, SOMM (2012).
The history of wine beginning with the Romans*, the cultivation of the grapes, how the wine is aged, the pricing of wines and other fascinating aspects of this multi-billion dollar global industry are each given one of ten sections in the film. Like Wise’s first film, SOMM II: Into the Bottle debuted to already-wine-appreciative audiences at the Napa Valley Film Festival (held November 11th through the 15th).
SOMM: Into the Bottle is due to be released by Samuel Goldwyn Films in 2016. It is hoped that the general movie-going public will appreciate the slightly fruity aroma and long finish (93 minutes).
